Iris Hantverk craftsmen have been making wood and natural fibre brushes in the tradition of Swedish brush binding since the late 19th century. Visually impaired craftsmen continue these traditions today, creating brushes and tools that are both beautiful and functional.

This Iris Hantverk bassine outdoor broom is simply, fabulous. The "shorter" birch handle is actually appropriate in my opinion as the tasks that require the use of this broom, seem to be more efficient and convenient without all that "handle". This broom is beautiful. I have a porch in front of my horse tack shed, with a railroad tie along and in front of that as a step and a seat. When the wind blows, sand and pine needles are everywhere, collecting in-between the wood decking and all over my rough and textured railroad tie (It's beautiful in itself!) and I like to keep it free of debris so I can sit on it, but also, the mud and dirt that come with being in a horse environment, is otherwise walked straight into my tack shed.
A regular broom of any kind, just didn't cut it for either the porch or the RR tie.
Then, Wa-la!
The Iris Hantverk basinne broom does the job of sweeping all that sand and those pine needles and leaves perfectly and efficiently out of the cracks and off my railroad tie, and to hold this broom in hand is joyful in itself. I use this broom daily, and also on an old, hand woven (tied?) rag rug in that tack shed, and it is amazing what this Bassine broom sweeps off of that!
I love this broom. I love that it is sweetly hand made, I love its beauty and simplicity, its ergonomic handle length, its efficiency. I set it upright without worry of damaging or bending the hardy bristles, and now have an obsession with it - everyone thinks I have an…
I have original 19th-century hardwoods with larger spaces in between the planks (due to age, settling, etc.) and I could never seem to find a broom that was able to sweep in between the planks to pick up the dirt/dust. Low and behold, the Bassine Broom - it’s pure magic! While the handle might be a bit on the smaller side (45”) for some, I am quite petite, so it doesn't bother me one bit! However, the broom has so many positives - collects the dust the first time you go over a spot, doesn't hold the dirt in between the bristles, looks beautiful out if you don't have a closet, and it's wonderful knowing that someone handcrafted this item, rather than being manufactured.
